The mailman’s motto goes “Not rain, nor sleet nor snow stops mail delivery.”
Well, the rain didn’t stop our bike ride today, although when I woke up and as I was driving down there, I thought there was no way we were actually going to put the rubber to the road. However, when we arrived to the starting point, the rain had pretty much stopped and the ground was drying up. And we were READY to ride!Let me step back a bit. It’s no secret I have been in a “funk” for the better part of 2 years. TWO YEARS! I’m almost embarrassed when I think about it that way, but my life is NOT about triathlon and racing. Sometimes there are things more important (like having a place to LIVE) and those things have taken me over by storm. I lost all desire, motivation and drive to do A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G triathlon-related. Well, except coach others. I still love that. I just couldn’t find myself getting motivated about a single thing. And I laugh at how many people said, “Just sign up for a race, that will motivate you!” Really? Did you just meet me? No. It takes more than that. I always promised myself that if triathlon stopped being fun, I was going to quit. And I did quit. For 2 years. I never said it would be forever. I don’t believe in the “nevers” and “forevers”. Nothing is absolute and I am smart enough to know that.
Wheels down – time to ride.
After a couple of rocky years, Team Tri Right is growing strong and my business, Tri Right Coaching, has never been better and I have bigger plans for growth. With those things in place, I think I can now focus on some training.
So back to today’s ride. It wasn’t perfect by far, but it was with some very awesome people that I am lucky to know. And for the first time in almost 2 years, I actually ENJOYED the ride.
